No problem at all! You can find it here. (I’m a bit worried though as you’re not the first person who’s had trouble accessing my poetry site. I may have to look into this.) 😛

Hey there Tony can I impose? I like to think of the people I communicate with regularly as a mutual community. One of those people is having a hard time right now with depression. If you get a minute can you pop over and say a few kind words?
Her name is Deborah, the link to her last post is here:
https://traderoutz.wordpress.com/2015/08/28/love-one-another-as-i-have-loved-you-jesus/
Stuck on what to say?
‘Hey Deborah I’m a regular at The Ed’s Journal and I heard you weren’t feeling great, just wanted to drop and line to say hang in there…’ anything like that would be great.
Thanks in advance if you can and do, not a problem if you can’t and don’t. The Ed.
The strip? My, the artistry is quite amazing. You captured the underwater effect brilliantly. The time you must put into each episode…my my my.

I was happy to visit. (I just hope Deborah doesn’t think it weird for some total stranger to suddenly pop in and say hey and then pop out again.) 😛
And thank you for reading! The strips certainly do take some time to put together – especially at the colouring stage. It’s nice knowing that there are people out there in blogging land who are appreciating my efforts! 😀

Nah, kind words can be so powerful at the right time, perhaps even moreso from strangers, so thanks for that. 🙂
And yes, I know a few people like you in the blogging world who disappear into the laboratory for extended periods and emerge with these amazing creative projects. It’s enormous fun and always worth the wait.

Heaven behold, a dislike for mollusks! What is the world coming to Tony? I happen to work at a mollusk factory; packing mollusks into 1kg bags. I’m quite meticulous- about mollusks and their selling weight. 1.025 as bag weight must be taken into account also.
Loved the comic; it had me in a chuckle, especially at the passiveness of one character. And bloody jeeves, what a name. I am not one to judge.
The term success is interesting isn’t it… I feel most around me are trying so hard, when I do in fact -surface from the den. Whereas personally, at each stage of ‘what I seem to be doing’ in each moment, I’ve always had a sense of success. A feeling inside that feels good. Others connecting always felt like this weird bonus feature. Freedom is a beautiful thing.

I like your idea of freedom, Jessie. I think I need to cultivate me some of that healthier perspective! As for mollusks, it’s the oddest thing but I’m not a big fan of seafood either. I’ve often wondered why that is… I’m so glad you enjoyed the strip! 😀

I did read them all but I don’t recall that one. Methinks this will be a good opportunity to revisit them… 😀 As for Cerebus, I definitely read that. It’s a classic! Dave Sim really did stir up quite a bit of controversy with his epic aardvark tale… 😛

To be honest, I just couldn’t agree with some of his views on women, but I will concede that his work was always a welcome challenge to read. I’d rather it was that than mediocre.

That’s funny, that’s why I stopped at the third book. Robert Crum too. Wonder why some of the great artists in comic writing are anti women. That’s why Halo Jones was pretty good. Yes Halo was objectified but she had ultimate power and was better illustrated than Tank Girl in my humble estimate.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Tank Girl is one that I’ve yet to investigate, so I’ll defer to your better judgement on that!
And as for Mr Crumb, I’m not entirely convinced that he’s anti-women. I kind of wonder if he’s got more of a weird kind of awe/fear vibe going on with women than any actual hatred or intense dislike of them. Granted, it does not come off well, and granted I haven’t seen all of his works so there may be stuff he’s done that I have yet to see that will change my view on that.
Mr Sim, on the other hand, really does leave me scratching my head. His seeming hatred of women coupled with his conversion to… well, I guess it’s a mish mash of Abrahamic religions is befuddling to say the least. And it shows in his work, especially the later volumes of Cerebus.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Crumb’s art though…. Gorgeous. I have the Janis Joplin LP it’s a fairyland of gorgeous vice. Agreed about Sim. A very big hater of something. So many cartoons are in one form or another. A simple question would be, why?

My grandfather was an artist. I elevate visual art to a lofty place. The ability to mix both mediums even higher and as a life long comic fan, well you beat all. I grew up reading Fat Freddie’s Cat and The Freak Brothers in the bathroom, I may not have known innocence but I could appreciate comics before I understood anything else. Like a velvet glove cast in iron.

PS what comics and or illustrator artist etc have been your influence or favorite?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Sounds like the perfect upbringing to me! 😛
As for influences, I grew up reading and loving comic strips such as Peanuts, Footrot Flats, and Calvin & Hobbes. Peanuts was the biggest influence though. Something about Charles Schulz’s deft touch with whimsy and melancholy resonated as a kid.
I was also drawn to Tove Jansson’s Moomintroll books. There was definitely something strange and otherworldly about them, and I loved it!
And Japanese cartoons. These were a huge influence too. Astro Boy, Sherlock Hound and Robotech were particular highlights.

Did you like kids books too? I was ( am) obsessed with the Lobels who did a lot of kids books in the seventies. I can scan some if u haven’t seen them.

I’m ashamed to say that I’m unfamiliar with the Lobels! And as for children’s books in general, I rather enjoyed anything that had the amazing drawings of Quentin Blake in it. His art style captivated me like no other!

The Lobels… WOW. Impressive stuff right there! And Maurice Sendak… OH MY GOD. 😀 As for Quentin Blake, he did the illustrations for most of Roald Dahl’s books. He’s the main reason I even read ’em in the first place. 😛 And also… my age. I turned a tender 43 this year! (Lord, I feel old…)

We’re the same age! I turn 43 this year too! 1972 right? I don’t feel old I like getting older. So glad you saw the Lobels work. Cool isn’t it? Sendak… Be still my heart! ( the night kitchen was my favorite).

It’s funny you should say that about getting older. I’ve felt like an old man for as long as I can remember. I don’t think I ever was a proper carefree kid. I wonder if the older I get the younger I’ll feel? Can it work that way? 😛

Did you really collaborate with him, Tony? Or did you use for this strip some of his interviews?
LikeLiked by 1 person
The truth lies somewhere between those two possibilities, Tati. Years ago I had a blog called Trottersville, and on it I posted an interview that I had conducted with Mr Arkley. When I closed the blog down, I felt bad that no one would ever read it again, so I vowed to use it somewhere else in future. And now I finally have. YAY! 😀
