About

Tony Single is a cartoonist who’s been drawing since he was old enough to hold a crayon. Incidentally, holding a crayon is his most significant accomplishment to date. He also holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts in Animation but hasn’t really done anything meaningful with it. He just likes to hold it.

His most notable creation is the webcomic Crumble Cult which was launched in 2012.

Other works include the comics Life is Cheap, Royal Knavery, and Vulgar Display of Mediocrity, as well as Trottersville, a webcomic that has gone through many iterations because Tony simply doesn’t know when to let something go. He’s also contributed to the Australian anthologies DeeVee and Tango, and his artwork was featured in a comics exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Rijeka, Croatia, in 1999. He still wishes he could have gone to see it for himself.

Tony is currently at work on the graphic novel version of Crumble Cult with fellow creative Tetiana Aleksina. They also manage Unbolt Me, a poetry website that was launched in 2014 and still runs to this day.

Tony currently lives with his wife in a quaint little villa in Australia where the summers are hatefully hot. Well, that’s fine, because they hate summer back.

Tetiana Aleksina is a Ukrainian writer, poet, translator and coffee addict who has collaborated with Tony on many projects, including three prose/poetry collections, the aforementioned webcomics Crumble Cultย and Trottersville, as well as Unbolt Me.

She is also head script writer for the upcoming animated series Tiny Moles which was the winner of TYSIACHOVESNA, an initiative to support Ukrainian culture (with funding for production from the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine). Also, Tetiana is a contributing editor for the upcoming zine Before the Storm which features artistic remembrances of everyday life before the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Tony, by the way, was involved in that project too!

She and Tony are currently busy with the aforementioned Crumble Cult graphic novel, as well as another webcomic that has yet to be revealed.

Tetiana still lives in Ukraine where she’s armed with a portable power station, is still addicted to coffee, and still hasn’t given up hope for that day when the invaders are booted out for good.

    I’m also 40 something looking for something and now I’m here. Do you have it?
    I was wandering through the streets of Sydney last Wednesday and came across a rainbow bicycle outside a bookshop but when I tried to take off, it was chained to the ground. What does it mean?

  22. Thanks so much for liking my blog post, Tony. I was curious and ended up browsing around your various pages and listened to a few of your podcasts. You may say you can’t write, but you can certainly entertain with your words. It’s so nice to hear someone speaking truth, revealing insecurities and reminding us to laugh at ourselves. Beauty is a wondrous thing but can be so unkind in how it’s shared. Would you rather have a beautiful face or a beautiful mind? Or both? I really hope you realise how good you are.
