Whoops! I almost missed this comment! How did I do that? J, I would love to collaborate but unfortunately my days are packed to the brim with stuff for Crumble Cult and Unbolt Me (among other things). However, I’d be very happy to help you with whatever advice I can. Your Mermaid Girl book would work terrifically with some truly elegant mermaid art. Have you got any other artists in mind? (I hope?) 🙂

No worries I totally understand.
I appreciate ur support 💛 I am a rookie blogger. No artists for Mermaid Girl. I have some photos I’m thinking to edit & use. However I would love illustrations instead.
I have a few ideas of what I want her to look like. My imagination runs wild💯💚

Good luck with this! Perhaps the photo route might offer a level of reality that illustrations might now. It depends on what you’re shooting for really…

Lodda comments! jeeze, I’m of a different ilk. slightly … wull, a little. anyway!
If you don’t mind, i’ll interpret the poem about the green woman with nice tits and the man who’s deaf. I.e. … he DOESN’T LISTEN, the dumb ass!
He lost his hearing aid! He cant HEAR or LISTEN!. Are women responsible?. Hell no! If men would have started listening to women long ago, we would’t have the kind of stupid problems we have now!
Doesn’t any body fucking get it?! Oh … ! sorry … ! I didn’t mean to make a political statement about the maniacal rule of Donald Trump who … I believe may try to take over the government. I said POSSIBILITY!
OOPS! ok, here i am again … . To sum it up, this poem is an indictment of men who have been too stupid to do any fucking good in a long long time because, they are so impressed with their big dicks that they don’t listen to ideas and choices from the minds of the maternal aspect of our world who EMBRACE life … so fuck ’em. It’s about time!
(I’m a man, by the way.)
They don’t listen these “men to other men” only; those who won’t consider the message of the other half of our ongoing struggle to live.
Finally, the artist and her beautully speaking verbal helper …. she who speaks poetry at all times it is the language of poetry she speaks, containing within it a kind of mysterious blend of English and ummmm … another language … another way of thinking. So beautiful to hear and see .. really!
May we look upon her as one who speaks with brevity yet gives the reader or the listener a world of detail
Jeeze … what could be better?
OK so finally … (ok ok I like to talk … ) to demonstrate the artists’ mythical definition of women, … at the end of the piece … this woman is portrayed as a friend of nature to such an extent that she has a natural ability to communicate with all life and so, she is part of it.
To me, it’s the awesome power of women … unfortunately not yet fully released, that will give us the deeper understanding of our role between between ourselves and all living things.
Thank you so much for writing a piece that more than piqued my interest. And thank you for giving me route here by way of the ‘like” you gave me. Please come by more often and try to read everything ok? Whoops! Jeeze, that was rude. sorry. But seriously, there can be no greater compliment than what you gave me.

I’m with you. Women get the raw end of the stick, I think. I don’t know why men don’t just shut up and listen to them more often than they do. I really like your take on this strip by the way. I was delighted at the opportunity to read some well thought out… well, thoughts on it all. And, no, I don’t find you rude at all. Just forthright, and that’s a good thing to be. 🙂

I see it the other way around. If I say something and the other person, man or woman, doesn’t listen… I don’t bother to speak again. It’s pointless. Some people listen, some not. It’s up to them. It’s the way they are. So I talk and hear to those who listen and have something interesting to say. The rest… it’s none of my concern.

That’s actually a pretty straightforward way to approach it all, to be honest. I really like your take on it.

This comic is awesome. For some reason, it reminds me of Steven Universe. Maybe because the mermaid is drawn sort of like the gems in Steven Universe.

You talented bunch! You know what I wish? As a kid i was OBSESSED with comics and I always wanted to be able to do what you do. Did you ever read the french artist Claire Bretchner? She did a series in the late seventies, early eighties called ‘Frustration’ OMG they were life-changing! Then I got addicted to Cerebus (Dave Sim) and of course, Velvet Glove goes without saying, then the original Robert Crumb (genius even if he was a bastardo) then Halo Jones and anything by Alan Moore, of course Asterix as a side gig and something good for sitting on the toilet, along with Tintin and then I got really into the classic Judge Dread and went through all the Wolverine and a bunch of others. Ah. Comics. BTW can you pm me your home or PO address I want to send you something. On a side, T. I was thinking about what you said yesterday, and I’m going to write B and ask her how it would work if I wrote sporadically because my concern was writing something I felt was below par I wanted only to contribute excellent stuff but you know how it is, if you can’t write excellent that day, anyway … I do listen to you. Back to the comic (ping pong brain today) If I could choose a ‘gift’ I’d want to be a comic illustrator/artist above being a writer ANY day. I admire the shit out of comic writers/illustrators who are really good like you. Maybe that’s why I grabbed a-hold of you the day we met and never let go my friend. Seriously though – if you knew how rare your gift is (everyone writes, big fucking deal, unless you’re Tati in which case you’re an alien who can do no wrong and always produces the highest quality, in different language, yeah she’s a damn genius and not of this planet)

Hey, C.! So good to see you here!
No, I’ve not read Claire Bretchner’s stuff at all. I’d like to though. I Googled her and I must say I love the art style she uses! (I wish I could read French.) Cerebus was a staple growing up. Alas, I’m unfamiliar with Velvet Glove. Robert Crumb is a strange, unsettling kind of genius, isn’t he? (I never know whether he’s just being bravely honest or just a misogynist.) A British friend introduced me to Halo Jones which was pure awesome. It showed me what comics really could be with a female lead driving the plot. Loved Alan Moore’s epic From Hell. Have you read that? I lived on Asterix and Tintin as a child, and still do. Judge Dredd bypassed me for some reason, and I was never that into superhero comics to begin with, although I do recall a period in my teens where I devoured anything written by Chris Claremont.
As for being a comic writer/illustrator, have you ever done any kind of art? It might not be a bad idea for you try as I’m sure you would hit on an art style that’s all you. Tati and I are having a blast working together, and we sure hope people are having fun reading what we produce. We have so much more planned! Fingers crossed that we can get to it all before I expire! Ha ha! (And I’d be happy to PM you my PO address!) 🙂

You have to read Velvet Glove. And there is an English version of Claire Bretchner – you would LOVE I think your work is a lot like hers and she is WICKED CLEVER like you. I don’t know Claremont I’m going to google them. I have done some art but I’m not talented like you, really I think you need to have that talent but I’ll send you a few of my humble things
LikeLiked by 1 person
Would love to see them! As far as Claremont is concerned, I’m not so sure… I’d recommend Adrian Tomine instead. He’s an indie comics artist who does slice-of-life stuff that has an authentic emotional truth to it that I think few artists ever achieve. 🙂

you’re not such a wickedly good artist and illustrator, you know how to eek something out that is perhaps traditional and reveal it in another light, I think that ability is what makes an artist ‘edgy’ and though that’s a term that can be over-used it’s good in its true sense, to describe someone who is always one step ahead and can shock us and make us think ‘oh I wish I’d thought of that one’ or ‘I wish i’d seen it that way’ which is what you do – so even though you are technically good at your art, it’s also your mind and humor and pathos that makes your work memorable. see, told you that you were good at more than one thing
LikeLiked by 1 person
Candice, you are very kind! I’m actually quite happy that you’ve looked beyond the technical aspects of my craft to the mind and humour behind it because, really, at the end of the day that’s what I want the reader to be focusing on. It’s similar to your writing. There’s definite skill and craft at play there when you choose your words but it’s the intent behind it all that truly matters at the end of the day. 🙂
